DIMO Healthcare, DIMO’s healthcare arm, together with Siemens Healthineers, has once again demonstrated its commitment to further advancing cancer treatment in Sri Lanka by introducing the latest version of the Siemens CT Simulator, SOMATOM go.Sim, accompanied with AI-enabled tools for enhanced patient outcomes.

The installation of this state-of-the-art CT Simulator at the Ceylinco Cancer Centre represents a major advancement in cancer treatment in Sri Lanka. Ceylinco Cancer Centre, the pioneer of private sector radiotherapy treatment in the country, first entrusted DIMO Healthcare with the installation of a radiotherapy unit in 2007. Since then, DIMO Healthcare’s unmatched after-sales service has reinforced this trust, leading Ceylinco Cancer Centre to select DIMO Healthcare for its latest installation.

The new CT Simulator – SOMATOM go.Sim has transformed CT technology to create meaningful, large bore RT planning solutions that unlock key innovations for radiation therapy planning. SOMATOM go.Sim is a single, integrated software and hardware solution that
covers the entire CT simulation process through fail safe, reproducible & streamlined workflows. SOMATOM go.Sim delivers image optimization for target delineation, target margins, and even auto contouring – and by integrating the power of AI, this CT simulator removes the problem of variability at the starting point for treatment planning.

The Siemens Healthineers SOMATOM go.Sim CT Simulator transforms care delivery with its large bore assisting doctors in generating comprehensive 3D images of a patient’s body, allowing them to accurately detect the tumor. These images are then used to plan treatment, making sure that the radiation from the Varian Clinac iX  Linac selects the cancerous tissue with high accuracy while sparing healthy tissue. This blend of imaging and targeted radiation helps provide effective

cancer therapy. It supports dual-energy imaging, enabling clinicians to distinguish between different kinds of tissues more effectively, which can be vital in planning treatment for complex cases. The Cinematic Rendering feature offers highly detailed, 3D images of patient anatomy, increasing the visualization of anatomical structures and helping clinicians make better-informed decisions.

Equipped with advanced AI-driven automation tools, the SOMATOM go.Sim CT Simulator streamlines image acquisition and treatment planning, reducing the workload on clinicians and ensuring greater accuracy. Its user-friendly interface, mobile workflow and intuitive touch-based controls make it simpler for technologists to operate, while features like automated patient positioning and setup further optimize the workflow.

Beyond its technological advancements, the SOMATOM go.Sim CT Simulator is designed with sustainability and patient well-being in mind. Its low-dose technology reduces radiation dose based on ALARA (as low as reasonably achievable) principle, ensuring patients undergoing multiple imaging sessions during treatment and follow up studies do not get over-burdened with undesirable radiation dose. Additionally, the simulator is also designed with a special imaging protocol meant for the pediatric patient group adapting to the weight and age of children, significantly reducing unwanted radiation dose.

myExam Companion, an AI-based assistant guides the operator through the scanning procedure, providing real-time adjustments and optimizing image quality for each patient, which can significantly reduce the requirement for re-scans. Special features like iMAR & SAFFIRE software takes care in reducing impact of metal artifacts & electronic noise in the reconstructed images, thus generating high resolution images essential for effective radiation therapy treatment planning.

Mr. Wijith Pushpawela, Executive Director of DIMO and head of its healthcare arm said, “DIMO Healthcare is dedicated to bringing the latest technology to crucial sectors in  the healthcare

domain, such as Cancer Management, as technological advancements are seen to have a positive impact on the community at large. The Siemens Healthineers SOMATOM go.Sim CT Simulator is a testament to our commitment to enhancing the quality of imaging for radiation therapy in the oncology sphere. With Siemens Healthineers, we aim to deliver successful and more patient-oriented therapy, which ultimately enables us to build a healthier nation while fueling the dreams and aspirations of Sri Lankans.”

By combining the power of cutting-edge technology with DIMO Healthcare’s engineering expertise in the medical field and the seamless functioning of these advanced equipment with periodic service and maintenance, Sri Lanka is now equipped to provide sophisticated cancer care. The Siemens Healthineers SOMATOM go.Sim CT Simulator represents a significant step in the country’s journey towards a healthier future.
