MAS Intimates opens Intermediate Care Center to assist COVID-19 patients in the North-Western Province

MAS Intimates, the largest division of Sri Lanka’s leading apparel manufacturer MAS Holdings (Pvt) Ltd, established an Intermediate Care Center consisting of 450 beds which was opened on the 1st of July 2021. The Center, situated in Polgahawela, was set up with the support of the Sri Lanka Army for the benefit and treatment of employees, their families and the general public in the North-Western Province, amidst the challenges faced due to the rapid spread of the virus across the region. 

This Intermediate Care Center, built at a cost of over Rs. 48 million, was declared open by the Governor of the North Western Province, Hon. Raja Collure. Mr. Rajiv Dharmendra, CEO of MAS Intimates and Mr. Ruwan Keragala, Director of Production and Operations along with Director – Manufacturing, MAS Intimates, Rohan Daulagala were present at the occasion. 

This Intermediate Care Center, established under the supervision of Dr. M.K. Sampath Indika Kumara, Provincial Director, North Western Provincial Health Department, has been set up with special facilities to accommodate the needs of critical COVID-19 patients. The Center hosts a High Dependency Unit and special facilities that can accommodate up to 20 patients with high levels of infection. The Center has been structured keeping in mind the safety and convenience of doctors, with the capability to monitor oxygen levels of any patient as well as CCTV observation of patients. 

The Polgahawela Regional Hospital provides necessary patient care services to the patients at the Care Center, and the North-Western Provincial Health Services and the North-Western Provincial Cooperative Development Department act as key stakeholders. 

Through this initiative, MAS Intimates, which prioritizes the well-being of its members and the communities it operates in, hopes to create a healthier and safer environment for the people of the Kandy and Kurunegala districts.
