Addressing crucial health concerns in the Sri Lankan Estate community, Serendib Flour Mills Limited (SFML) has joined hands with the Plantation Human Development Trust (PHDT), to launch ‘Serendib Adhi Shakti Fortified Wheat Flour’ – a micronutrient-fortified wheat flour tailored for the nutritional needs of estate communities.
The new flour was unveiled at an event held at the Araliya Green City Hotel, Nuwara Eliya recently with distinguished guests in attendance including, Barath Arulsamy, Chairman, L. R. Perera, Director General, and Dr. R.M.S.K. Amunugama, Director Health from the PHDT. Vijay Sharma, CEO, Suresh Murugesu, CFO and Kalinga Wijesekara, Director of Brand and Corporate Communication representing SFML, along with CEOs and representatives from Regional Plantation Companies were also present.
Adhi Shakthi wheat flour contains essential nutrients such as Iron, Folic Acid, and Vitamin B12. The product has been developed in response to widespread micronutrient deficiencies and the increasing incidence of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) within Sri Lanka’s estate community. Especially the prevalence of anemia and folate deficiencies among the plantation communities is a well-known fact due to the lack of a balanced diet among these communities. Thus, Adhi Shakthi is poised to significantly improve the nutritional well-being of the estate community, contributing to the overall health and vitality of the area.
The initiative demonstrates Serendib’s commitment to community development, empowerment, and social impact. Serendib Flour Mills’ programs continue to serve as a source of inspiration and a reminder of the positive effect businesses can have on society when the well-being of communities is prioritized.
Kalinga Wijesekara, Director, Brand and Corporate Communications, Serendib Flour Mills stated, “Serendib is proud to introduce Adhi Shakthi Fortified Wheat Flour in collaboration with the PHDT. With Adhi Shakthi, we hope to make a meaningful difference in the lives of estate communities by improving their access to nutritious food. It also aligns perfectly with our brand purpose of nourishing the nation and fostering health and vitality across all communities.”
