Serendib Flour Mills thoughtfully organised the ‘Uththama Dalada’ project once again, for the fourth consecutive year, staying true to the commitment of ‘Nourishing the Nation’ and bringing joy to the elderly through a distinct and memorable experience.

Reinforcing the company’s unwavering dedication to elder care and community service, this year’s program introduced an innovative approach to the meaningful endeavour.
In previous years elders from aged homes around Kandy were transported by comfortable buses. However, for the 2025 program, Serendib Mills program offered elders from six homes in the Gampaha district were selected and transported to Kandy via a specially arranged train.
The initiative was carried out in close collaboration with the Sri Lanka Railway Department. The enthusiastic support and gracious cooperation of the railway station staff in Gampaha and Kandy contributed to the success of the program.
With careful consideration for their comfort, onboard entertainment was arranged for the elders during their train journey. The program commenced at the Gampaha railway station, with a Banis Dansala for all passengers travelling on the entire train, as part of the company’s broader community outreach efforts.
The elders arrived in Kandy and worshiped the sacred Sri Dalada Maligawa, paying homage and seeking blessings. Following the temple visit, the group proceeded to a specially allocated viewing area, with comfortable seating arrangements to witness the magnificent splendour of the Esala Perahera.
Throughout the full-day program, Serendib Flour Mills has ensured comprehensive care for the participants, including the presence of a dedicated medical team with a doctor on standby. All meals and refreshments were provided to the elders, prioritizing their comfort and wellbeing. Additionally, all elderly participants were presented an individual framed photograph to remember the memorable event.
The ‘Uththama Dalada’ project by Serendib Flour Mills is a poignant reminder that simple acts of kindness can touch lives and bridge generations. At the conclusion of Perahera, the elders were taken back to Gampaha in a specially arranged train.
With World Elders Day approaching in October, Serendib Flour Mills proves that authentic nourishment involves nurturing hearts and minds alongside providing sustenance, realizing the company’s foundational principle of ‘Nourishing the Nation.’
