The Workshop Players, one of Sri Lanka’s most esteemed theatre ensembles, are set to return to the stage for a special charity concert, Encore for a Cause, in support of the Indira Cancer Trust’s Suwa Arana Palliative Paediatric Care Centre. This highly anticipated event will take place on Tuesday, 18th March at The Lionel Wendt Theatre, promising an unforgettable evening of music and theatre.

The choice of date for this concert carries a doubly significant meaning: nestled between the 33rd Anniversary of The Workshop Players on 7th March and World Theatre Day on 27th March, the concert on the 18th serves as a tribute to the ensemble’s enduring legacy and the global celebration of theatre.
Jerome L. de Silva, Artistic Director of The Workshop Players, shared the heartfelt inspiration behind this initiative:
“Having seen and experienced the suffering and anguish of children suffering from cancer and their parents, I decided that we should do a fundraiser to help support them.”
In response, the group has rallied together, channeling their passion and talent into a cause that offers solace and support to children battling cancer. All proceeds from the concert will go directly to Suwa Arana – A Place for Healing, which provides compassionate end-of-life care for children. The centre’s Rainbow Rooms ensure that families can stay together, providing children not only with medical attention but also with emotional and spiritual care during their most vulnerable times.
Audiences can look forward to an exceptional lineup of performances, featuring acclaimed theatre veterans such as Bhanu Prabhasha, Daniella Perera, Dinushka Jayawickreme, Dushyanth Weeraman, Kavitha Gunasekera, Mario De Soyza, Melanie Bibile, Rehan Almeida, Sean Amarasekera, and Stephanie Siriwardhane, alongside renowned guest artists. With a blend of musical theatre classics and powerful performances, Encore for a Cause promises to be both a celebration of artistry and a beacon of hope for those in need.
