The University of Moratuwa is thrilled to unveil the much-anticipated annual design showcase, “Design Code,” scheduled to take place from November 23rd to 26th. The Design Code was officially revealed during an engaging press conference which was held at Trace Expert City on November 14th capturing it to be a four-day extravaganza organized by the Department of Integrated Design, Faculty of Architecture, University of Moratuwa.
During the recent press briefing, industry experts who participated, highlighted the crucial role of design in revitalizing the economy, especially with initiatives like Design Code aiming to position design innovation prominently. This underscores the global demand for design innovation as a transformative force and the discussions emphasized the strategic use of creativity and forward-thinking in navigating Sri Lanka through challenges, serving as a key instrument in unlocking new avenues of growth.
At the conference, Dr. Sumanthri Samarawikrama, Design Code Event and IDR Chairperson, expressed, “We are excited to announce the commencement of ‘Design Code’ for 2023, and the collaboration with IDR marks a significant milestone in our journey. Our aim is to catalyze opportunities for students and professionals alike and solidify our position as the voice of design in Asia and we’re set to expand ‘Design Code’ by covering emerging design trends, bringing in renowned international speakers in increasing the capacity for a larger audience.”
“Design Code” has been a hallmark of creativity and innovation since its inception in 2017 further evolving as a dynamic platform spotlighting the remarkable talent of Integrated Design students. This year, it reaches new heights with an exciting collaboration with the department’s Design Research arm, IDR (Integrated Design Research), marking a transformative shift towards an interdisciplinary platform fostering global collaboration in design research, education, and practice.”
The event is supported by The Ministry of Industries – Export Development Board and Sri Lanka Tea Board and will feature speakers from the National Institute of Design in Ahmedabad (India), Google (USA), Ford Motor Company (USA), and partnerships with Nippon Paint Lanka, Puwakaramba Enterprises Private Limited, Global Vinyl, Dream Factory Private Limited, MullenLowe, Panther Graphics, Print Care Solutions, and several other commercial partners.
