Kingspan warns of substandard PIR Duct brands in the Sri Lankan market

The Pre-Insulated (PIR) Duct industry in Sri Lanka has been subjected to controversy due to the low-quality products that are available in the market. Kingspan, a global entity PIR Duct industry, urges its clients in purchasing industry standard and reliable products. Kingspan notes that the standard insulated systems are manufactured using polyisocyanurate foam which is known for its high thermal efficiency, lightweight design and strong corrosion resistance.

PIR Duct application

The company emphasises the fact that unlike the PIR Ducts, the Galvanised Iron (GI) ducts are 15-20% heavier in comparison to PIR Ducts which results in higher labour and difficulty in installation. Its rigidity limits design flexibility leading to costly modifications and requiring higher maintenance due to its susceptibility to corrosion in humidity despite its low price and robustness in resisting physical stress.

As the company’s expertise, Kingspan reaffirms that due to their sleek, aesthetically pleasing finish, PIR Ducts add appeal in modern applications. It further states, “When selecting the right PIR brand it is essential to review the type, weight and composition of the product, request samples for inspection and insist on genuine fire, toxicity, and smoke certificates that meet global standards. Visiting the manufacturer’s factory, understanding the production process and confirming the availability of stock are also crucial. Ensuring that panels and accessories come from the same brand is vital for maintaining uniformity and quality.”

Additionally, the PIR industry has also faced challenges with unethical practices, as evidenced by a recent incident involving a well-known brand manipulating product certifications and test reports to gain approval for high-value projects. Thus, choosing the right brand for specific project needs is key to reaping the true benefits of PIR ducts and avoiding potential building hazards.

Kingspan holds Certificate of Conformity, ISO 9001:2015 for Quality Management, ISO 14001:2015 for Environmental Management, and ISO 45001:2018 for Occupational Health and Safety and these certifications come from respected bodies such as Warringtonfire and TÜV SÜD. For 58 years, Kingspan has proven its reliability through installations in high-value projects across the globe, including Sri Lanka.

Moreover, Kingspan offers eco-friendly products with a fibre-free insulation core which ensures high performance. They are also durable, with no risk of delamination of the aluminium foil. Kingspan is the only brand that offers a full range of ductwork solutions, including panels, accessories, adhesives, and sealants specifically designed for PIR ducts. Its products are manufactured in its UAE plant guaranteeing uniform quality standards. Its 10-year warranty exceeds the industry norm which is a trademark of its confidence in the durability of its products.
