Nawaloka Hospital, a leading private sector hospital in Sri Lanka, has achieved a remarkable feat by successfully performing a complex kidney stone surgery using mini nephrolithotomy (mini-PCNL) for the first time in the hospital’s history. This procedure, which evacuated a massive 4cm kidney stone involving the entire left kidney, is being hailed as a medical marvel due to the complexity of the tone size.

In a remarkable feat, Nawaloka’s medical team, equipped with state-of-the-art technology and sophisticated machinery, evacuated the entire kidney stone, leaving no remnants behind. The success of this delicate surgery was the result of exceptional teamwork, with only six members present in the surgical team, including the operating surgeon, two nursing assistants, two technicians, and one radiographer.

From the initial discovery of the stone to the successful completion of the surgery, Nawaloka Hospitals executed the entire process in less than 24 hours, setting a new standard for efficiency and patient care in the medical field. This quick recovery and swift return to routine by the patient is a testament to the effectiveness of the surgery.

Notably, the patient’s swift recovery also had a cosmetic advantage, as laser technology ensured no scars, stitches, bleeding, or post-operative complications. The patient experienced zero pain and returned to their everyday life seamlessly as if nothing had transpired.

Nawaloka Hospitals Urologist  Dr. Kalana Parana Palliya Guruge, the lead surgeon for this procedure, expressed his satisfaction and joy at completing the surgery. He emphasized that such remarkable outcomes are only possible due to the highly skilled staff and the state-of-the-art technological equipment and accessories available at Nawaloka Hospitals.

“This surgery underscores the immense potential that lies at the intersection of skilled medical professionals and cutting-edge technology. I am proud of our exceptional team and grateful for the state-of-the-art equipment and resources at Nawaloka Hospitals that made this success possible. Most importantly, it reaffirms our commitment to providing our patients with the best care possible, offering them not just treatment but hope and a path to a healthier, pain-free life,” Nawaloka Hopitals Urologist  Dr. Kalana Parana Palliya Guruge said.

Nawaloka Hospitals entered Sri Lanka’s healthcare sector in 1985 and proceeded to dominate the private healthcare sector in the country. The launch of the hospital and the overwhelming response it received from the public demonstrated a long-felt need for superior healthcare in a pleasant environment.

The Hospital was a pioneering initiative, established under the Chairmanship of the Late Deshamanya H. K. Dharmadasa, to be a center of excellence in high-technology diagnostic and curative facilities.
