INSEE Cement conducted its Annual Medical Camp for underserved communities in and around Aruwakkalu, one of the company’s far-reaching and long-standing community wellness initiatives. A total number of 11 physicians including a Cardiologist, Gynecologist, General Physician, Neurologist, ENT Specialist and Nephrologist volunteered from the Kandy National Hospital, and were supported by dental surgeons and technicians conducting a separate dental clinic. Over 300 villagers from Puttalam, Aruwakkalu and surrounding areas benefited from the camp. INSEE Cement sponsors all expenses related to medicinal drugs, tests and other facilities during the event.

“While Community and Stakeholder Engagement is one of the five key pillars of the INSEE Sustainability Ambition 2030, INSEE Cement has nurtured strong synergies with the communities in the vicinity of both our Puttalam and Galle Cement Facilities over the years through uncountable community development, capacity development and social projects,” stated Serefin Bugeja, Manufacturing Director at INSEE Cement. “We are humbled by the success and response to our medical camp and will continue to invest in improving the health and well-being of the communities in which we operate.”

With ground-level access to the community, INSEE Cement has established plant-level Community Advisory Panels (CAP) inclusive of external stakeholders such as community leaders and Grama Niladaris working together with cross-functional INSEE teams. The CAP is tasked with identifying potential community needs focusing on health and wellbeing such as this medical camp, and other projects focusing on education, clean water, livelihood and sanitation as well as environmental conservation.
