Colombo, Sri Lanka – The Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing (SLIM) announced a significant increase in entries for the Effie Awards Sri Lanka 2024, reflecting the industry’s growing emphasis on marketing strategies that deliver tangible results. With 250 entries submitted, a notable 39% rise from 2023, this year’s awards showcase the strength of Sri Lanka’s marketing industry and its commitment to effective marketing communications.

Meanwhile, Dr. Dilhan Sampath Jayatilleke, Vice President – Events & Sustainability of SLIM said, “The record number of entries for the Effie Awards Sri Lanka 2024 showcases the dedication and creativity of our Marketers, who are constantly pushing the boundaries to achieve remarkable results. For future Marketers, this surge in participation serves as an inspiration and a benchmark for what can be achieved through strategic and effective marketing.”
To support participating agencies, the Effie Awards 2024 Committee organized three workshops led by industry experts. These sessions offered valuable guidance on crafting winning entries, including developing compelling video case studies and effectively utilizing research data. Further, participants were provided ample time for preparing strong submissions, especially taking into consideration the intensity of their ongoing work.
Gayan Wijethilaka, Project Chairman of the Effie Awards 2024 observed that the team behind the awards show has worked tirelessly, investing countless hours to ensure every detail of the event is executed flawlessly. He notes, “The workshops and support initiatives were designed to help participants put forth their best work, and the results speak for themselves. We are excited to honour the exceptional talent and innovative campaigns that have made a significant impact in the marketing landscape. I extend my heartfelt appreciation to the members of the committee, volunteers, and the remarkable jury members for their invaluable contributions.”
The judging process, a cornerstone of the Effie Awards, was conducted by a panel of 64 industry leaders and experts – the largest jury assembled for the Sri Lanka awards to date. The two-round evaluation took place on 11th-12th and 18th-19th January 2025, with 32 jury members participating in each round.
“I’d want to extend my sincere appreciation to our 64 jury members for their dedicated time and invaluable contributions, especially given the extensive number of entries this year,” remarked Head of Jury, Gian de Rose. “We placed a strong emphasis on assembling a diverse and qualified jury, bringing together experts and leaders from advertising, marketing, research and academic backgrounds. The mix of experienced Effie judges and first-time jurors ensured a healthy variety of perspectives, leading to balanced and insightful evaluations.” De Rose further noted that, “The quality of some of the work submitted was exceptionally high, and it was incredibly encouraging to witness the bravery and creativity of brands, marketers, and agencies in pushing boundaries and achieving impressive results even during a period where the economy had not fully recovered from the challenges of the past few years.”
The Effie Awards, renowned globally as a leading award in the advertising industry, recognize all forms of marketing communication that contribute to a brand’s success. The Effie Awards Sri Lanka 2024 gala, celebrating the best in marketing effectiveness, will be held on 13th February 2025 from 6:30pm at The Monarch Imperial.
