SLIIT Career Guidance Unit ensure student access to career opportunities

As undergraduates complete their degrees, the ability to interact with leading prospective employers and plan career pathways are crucial to their future. Empowering students with perfect opportunities towards dream careers, the SLIIT Career Guidance Unit successfully organised a series of events recently with international ICT companies in attendance.

The unique two-day ‘Career Expo’ initiative organised in collaboration with the SLIIT Career Guidance Unit and the SLIIT Rotaract Club was successfully held from 11th to the 12th of March at the SLIIT Auditorium. The main objective of the programme was to provide students and graduates with a multitude of job opportunities from many potential companies. The extremely productive event witnessed over 500 SLIIT undergraduates and graduates meeting with top employers, facing interviews and even gaining internships. 

Expanding students’ horizons, SLIIT partners with several leading business organisations to provide undergraduates a platform to demonstrate their skills, build networks and explore careers. The SLIIT Career Guidance Unit held several Career Days with leading technology companies Sysco LABS, Virtusa, IFS and HCL to help students gain job placements.

The Sysco LABS Exclusive Career Day was successfully held on the 26th of February 2022 with the participation of 300+ undergraduates and graduates. Notably, Sysco LABS offered many Software Engineering and Quality Assurance placements during the Career Day.

The Virtusa on-campus Career Day took place on 17th February 2022 with 300+ undergraduates and graduates participating. Virtusa presented 27+ Software Engineering and Quality Assurance permanent job offers during the career day and to-date have recruited 120+ fresh graduates as permanent employees during the months of February and March 2022. 

The IFS Career Day was successfully held on the 15th of February 2022 with the participation of 600+ undergraduates and graduates. IFS offered 40+ Software Engineering and Quality Assurance permanent jobs during the event.

SLIIT Career Guidance Unit also organised the HCL Career Day last December. 200+ SLIIT graduates, and undergraduates participated in the event. Students were able to gain an understanding about the multiple vacancies available at HCL Technologies Lanka along with valuable insights in becoming a respected IT professional. One-to-one discussions were arranged for the graduates and undergraduates to develop their career pathways. 

Continuing its work to assist undergraduates successfully join the future workforce, the SLIIT Career Guidance Unit will be organising its Annual SLIIT Career Week in September. Employers will have access to meet SLIIT 3rd-year Undergraduates from the Faculties of Business, Computing, Engineering, Humanities and Sciences, seeking industrial placements. Additionally, undergraduates completing their final year end semester examinations in May 2022 and graduating in September 2022 will also be attending the event.
