Leading fabric manufacturing facility in Sri Lanka, Trischel Fabric (Pvt) Ltd., has recently obtained the globally respected ISO 50001 Energy Management System (EMS) certification – a major milestone in the company’s journey towards sustainability, and testament also to its firm commitment to responsible business practices.
An international standard that aims to establish, implement, and guarantee an Energy Management System within the organisation, the ISO 50001 certification now authorises Trischel Fabric as a benchmark in the local textile industry – having established both policy and modes through which to continuously reduce energy consumption, minimise carbon footprint, and also reduce costs through the sustainable use of energy.
A joint venture between MAS Holdings and Best Pacific International Holdings Limited, Trischel Fabric was founded in 2007 and specialises in warp-knit manufacturing. The ISO 50001 certification has already yielded numerous benefits to the organisation, namely enhanced energy performance and resource efficiency, improved environmental stewardship and sustainability credentials, and increased customer confidence and market competitiveness, among others.
The journey to certification was no easy one, however. Having first assigned a dedicated energy management team to the task, team members had to conduct energy analyses, develop an energy balance, create a baseline, determine energy performance indicators (EnPIs) and energy-saving opportunities (ESOs), set objectives and targets, and formulate action plans. The focus was then turned to operational controls, raising awareness, improving action plans, implementing efficient designs, and meeting other requirements.
Robust monitoring and measurement procedures along with regular performance reviews allowed the team to gauge progress of its energy management system and make data-driven decisions for further optimization and continuous improvement – consistently pursuing innovative solutions for ever-evolving energy management practices.
“We are proud to be at the forefront of sustainable manufacturing practices in Sri Lanka, and hope to also inspire others to join us on this path towards a more energy-efficient and environmentally conscious future,” commented Sahan Rajapakse, Chief Executive Officer of Trischel Fabric on the certification.
Going forward, the company plans to remain committed to advancing its energy management practices and explore new technologies and strategies; aiming to continuously improve energy efficiency, explore renewable energy options, and collaborate with stakeholders to create a greener and more sustainable future.
