BSc (Hons) Psychology (LJMU, UK) at SLIIT School of Psychology Equips Students with Enhanced Knowledge in Theoretical and Applied Psychology

UK’s Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) BSc (Hons) Psychology, offered by the SLIIT School of Psychology, systematically prepares students to become ethical scientists, practitioners and professionals with a solid grounding in theoretical and applied fields in psychology. Furthermore, they will be equipped with transferable skills, preparing them for responsibilities outside of psychology. 

The 3-year Honours degree is based on a two plus one program where students complete the first year as a Diploma and the second year as a Higher National Diploma in Psychology. Fulfilling the criteria, students are eligible to register with LJMU for the third year. They will be awarded the BSc (Hons) Psychology degree upon completion. Students can also transfer to LJMU after the first or second year and complete their final years in the UK. 

As with all other SLIIT programmes, psychology students can graduate within the stipulated time frame for completion. SLIIT will support students to continue their education without being disrupted by external events. The admissions for next BSc (Hons) Psychology intake is now open. 

As the degree is accepted locally and globally, students can continue their higher education in Sri Lanka or abroad. The BSc (Hons) Psychology is recognized by the Sri Lanka University Grants Commission under the Universities Act. SLIIT is a member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities and the International Association of Universities (IAU), where the programme is accepted.

The SLIIT School of Psychology offers a world-class learning environment. A key feature that differentiates the BSc (Hons) Psychology at SLIIT from other psychology courses in the country is its dedicated full-time and visiting faculty. Students have access to full-time lecturers to discuss and seek guidance concerning study issues, research, internships and assistance for career preparation. Also, they have access to full-time counselling services at SLIIT for personal or academic problems. The panel of lecturers at SLIIT psychology consists of research and clinically oriented professionals who are deeply committed to enhancing students’ learning experience. Additionally, the students will have the input of visiting faculty members from diverse areas such as work psychology, sports psychology, forensic psychology, clinical and counselling psychology and educational psychology.

The SLIIT psychology programme offers students an invaluable opportunity to gain work experience through internships in research, counselling and other relevant fields, providing them exposure outside the classroom. The compulsory internship of at least 100 hours or three months ensures to capacitate students with knowledge, skills and insight to refine a host of skills that employers look for.

SLIIT students also have the opportunity to participate in numerous extracurricular activities, developing their overall skills, including professionalism and leadership qualities. Psychology students will also be interacting with students and lecturers from different disciplines, including natural sciences, law, mathematics and statistics, education, nursing, information technology, engineering, and business management, which not only increase their social capital but also provide them with the opportunity to explore how these different fields link with psychology.
